The effect of six weeks of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and fenugreek supplementation on plasma CRP and cortisol in overweight and obese women
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction and purpose: Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by regular exercise and the use of herbal supplements. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of six weeks of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and fenugreek supplementation on plasma levels of C-reactive protein and cortisol in overweight and obese women. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 48 obese and overweight women with a mean age of 29.79± 7.8 years and a body mass index of 29.29 ± 2.6 kg/m2 were purposefully selected to participate in this study. And were randomly divided into 4 groups of 12: exercise+placebo, exercise+supplement, supplement and placebo. The supplement groups took one 500 mg fenugreek capsule daily. Exercise groups performed intense intermittent training at maximum speed for three sessions per week for 6 weeks. Blood samples were taken before and after the training period and supplementation to measure the research variables. Statistical analysis of data was performed by analysis of covariance and Scheffe post hoc tests at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: CRP in exercise+supplement group (p= 0.04) and cortisol in exercise (p=0.039), supplement (p=0.033) and exercise+supplement (p=0.006) groups decreased significantly compared with control group. Discussion and Conclusion: Findings show that High-intensity interval training and fenugreek supplementation alone and simultaneously have a positive effect on CRP and cortisol; by minimizing the upward trends in the production of inflammatory markers, the negative effects of inflammation are minimized. Reducing these indicators is an effective step in reducing diseases related to the immune system.

Effects of Sucrose Consumption after High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on the Plasma Levels of Irisin, Insulin, and Glucose in Overweight and Obese Women
Introduction: Irisin is secreted in response to exercise training, with strong metabolic effects on the muscle and fat tissue. On the other hand, consumption of sugary drinks is one of the main causes of overweight and insulin resistance, which seems to disrupt the secretion of irisin. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sucrose consumption following a high-intensity interval training...
full textEffect of High Intensity Interval Training on the Level of Leptin and Liver Enzymes in Obese and Overweight Males
Introduction: Obesity is a complex disorder, which is characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose tissue. Leptin is a peptide hormone, which is basically secreted by adipose tissue and is effective in the regulation of body weight and fat. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of high-intensity interval training on the level of Leptin and liver enzymes in obese and over...

Background & Aim: Obesity is a metabolic disorder that can be controlled and prevented by increasing calorie consumption and reducing calorie intake from food. This study aimed to investigate the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and high-intensity resistance training (HIRT) on lipid profile and body composition in overweight and obese men. Methods: 30 overweight or obese men ...
full textTHE EFFECT OF EIGHT WEEKS HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT) ON SERUM AMOUNTS OF FGF21 AND IRISIN IN SEDENTARY OBESE WOMEN
Background & Aims: Transforming white adipose tissue to brown adipose tissue is considered a solution to overcome undesirable effects of obesity in human beings. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on serum amounts of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) and Irisin in sedentary obese women. Materials & Methods: T...
full textThe effect of 6 weeks of intensive intermittent exercise training with fenugreek supplementation on lipid profile and body composition indices in overweight and obese women
Background and Aim: Obesity as a global challenge is caused by positive energy balance. Increasing the intensity of physical activity is related to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and probably because of this, it leads to the improvement of the characteristics of blood lipoproteins. Also, in recent years, special attention has been paid to the role of various plants in reducing bl...
